Projects

Microseismic monitoring provides a unique insight into the fractures induced by mining operations.

Mining Flow

The knowledge of the nature and extent of fracturing in mines has implications for:

  • Early warning on localised induced damage to mine infrastructure.
  • Reactivation or creation of structures affecting slope stability.
  • Effectiveness of preconditioning campaigns.
  • Progress of deep underground caving projects.
  • Processing of existing microseismic data sets and design of new monitoring campaigns.

Experience and Innovation

For over a decade, ASC has been involved in international projects and research programs for the monitoring of rock damage at mine scale.

  • Development of tools for the monitoring of fracture evolution around underground excavations in soft and crystalline rock.
  • Advanced processing of existing microseismic catalogues for the imaging of the fracture network induced by deep block caving.
  • Our Enhanced Microseismics program provides an integrated interpretation of the rock’s mechanical response through correlation of fracture network structures with Synthetic Rock Mass (SRM) geomechanical models.

Services for the Mining Industry

  • Locating events and determining their source parameters provides information on the zoning of rock damage and the fracturing process. ASC uses advanced location algorithms to minimise uncertainties imposed by a complex velocity structure.
  • Analysing a catalogue of microseismic data provides information on the distribution and geometry of fracture networks and their relationship to mining operations.

Software and Data Acquisition

  • Our flagship software package, InSite, is an integrated tool for seismic data acquisition, processing, management and visualisation.
  • InSite is independent of the acquisition hardware and can be integrated with most commercial hardware packages to perform real-time data capture and processing.
  • Processing algorithms are continuously advanced to meet the complexities of processing microseismic activity in challenging environments such as high-noise operating mines, complex velocity structures or limited coverage arrays.
  • ASC has a comprehensive range of cost-effective seismic data acquisition systems from sensors and signal conditioning to high-speed data acquisition.
  • We provide an in-depth and objective analysis of the type and design of hardware required in a project including a three-dimensional site analysis to give the optimal positioning of a sensor array.
