ASC at Euradwaste 08

29ASC presented a technical paper at Euradwaste 2008,the seventh European Commission conference on the management and disposal of radioactive waste, held in Luxembourg between 20 and 22 of October 2008.

The poster titled "Characterisation of Rock Mass Crack Damage Using Ultrasonic Surveys" presents a summary of two different approaches to interpret the evolution of crack density in a rock mass induced by stress changes associated with excavation and heating-cooling processes. These techniques were initially developed as part of the OMNIBUS project, part funded by the EC under the 5th Euratom framework and are being further extended to study the impact of thermal-induced stress changes on the host rock as part of the TIMODAZ project (in the 6th Euratom research framework programme).

The Euradwaste 08 conference covered the full range of radioactive waste management (RWM) issues and activities of relevance at EU level, including research programmes and initiatives as well as socio-political aspects.
