ASC is pioneering the commercialisation of technologies for the monitoring of Geological Disposal Facilities with its InSite Seismic Processor software and OMNIBUS hardware range.

  • Facility-wide seismic monitoring setup and operation, with three dimensional network optimisation.
  • Acoustic Emission monitoring to detect fractures around engineered structures and delineate potential pathways .
  • Three-dimensional ultrasonic surveys to actively examine rock to quantify damage and disturbance accumulation.
  • Embedding of sensors within engineered barriers, such as concrete bulkheads, to assess integrity.
  • Validation and development of numerical models for post-closure performance assesment.
    We provide consulting in array design, data acquisition, processing and interpretation for monitoring and site characterisation.

    Microseismic, Acoustic Emission and ultrasonic technologies examine the disturbance and damage evolution caused by the operating conditions of a radioactive waste repository.

    The technologies also provide data for validation of numerical models used in the Environmental Safety Case analysis predicting the effects of the operating conditions over large time scales.

  • ASC has designed and performed international microseismic, Acoustic Emission (AE) and ultrasonic monitoring projects for underground engineered structures.
  • We have managed large EC-funded research consortia and participate in projects to advance AE and ultrasonic technologies for examining and quantifying rock disturbance and fluid pathways.
  • We continue to manage acquisition, and perform data processing, for long-term experiments simulating disposal of radioactive waste.

Software and Data Aquisition

InSite is an integrated seismic data acquisition, processing, management and visualisation software developed as a complete solution for seismological studies.

  • InSite software is used extensively in ASC’s radioactive waste consulting operations and is now used by nuclear waste stakeholders and university research departments for inhouse processing and management of seismic data.
  • ASC supplies state-of-the-art microseismic and Acoustic Emission monitoring equipment using the latest data acquisition and computing technologies to organisations in charge of evaluating, selecting and operating deep Geological Disposal Facilities for high-activity waste.
  • We provide fully-featured training courses focussed on the principles behind the technology, processing algorithms and hands-on experience of using the software.
